From tracing smiles to trading cryptocurrencies, from caring for pets to designing metaverse solutions, from providing car-pooling services to implementing quantitative investment platforms, the pioneer batch of Bachelor of Arts and Science in Integrated Innovation (BAScII) students exhibited innovative products and solutions at the first Capstone Showcase organized on the School’s premises on 26-27 April 2023.
Following four years of hard work and learning that paved the way for the grand finale of their studies, these students presented their own meaningful real-life solutions to some of the pressing issues confronting us. Amidst cataclysmic global change, the initiatives presented by these young students were illustrative of their worldview and gave them a chance to bring their talents to fruition at an event that bore their distinctive signature.
“The Capstone final showcase marks the pinnacle of our program, highlighting the remarkable achievements of our students in their final projects,” Prof. Worsak, ScII Executive Director said while delivering his opening remarks at the two-day event. “Today, we gather here to witness the outstanding accomplishments of our first batch of graduating BAScii students, who have devoted themselves to transforming innovative ideas into reality. Over the next two days, we will delve into their final projects, which demonstrate their exceptional achievements in addressing global as well as local challenges,” Prof. Worsak remarked, adding that he hoped the audience would find inspiration in the creativity, perseverance, and determination of BAScii students.
Prof. Kaywalee Chatdarong, Vice President for Strategic Planning, Innovation and Global Engagement, Chulalongkorn University, stated that the Capstone project goes beyond a simple degree requirement as it is an opportunity for students to apply what they have learned to real‐world situations, working together with mentors and peers to create meaningful solutions that will shape their futures professionally and personally. “Together, let us revel in the boundless possibilities that lie ahead when we believe in ourselves and our ideas,” Prof. Kaywalee remarked.
The Capstone event showcased 73 students presenting 25 projects under three distinct headings – 8 in the business startup path, 3 in the social departmental path, and 14 in the industry path. Introducing the students to the audience were their faculty supervisors Dr. Ronnakorn Vaiyavuth (Business Startup Path), Dr. Yon jung Choi and Dr. Christopher Dixon (Social Departmental Path), and Dr. Pietro Borsano (Industry Path).
The Capstone showcase event also featured a career fair, where 20 companies set up exhibition booths and interviewed BAScii candidates for recruitment, and a networking event titled ScII Connect, where graduating students and school faculty and staff mingled with mentors, partners, and sponsors. Ms. Daria Dmitrieva was the event MC. Besides being graded for performance, the Capstone projects were also evaluated by the audience, who voted for the team AMA as the recipient of the Audience ward. Team AMA, which included Alex Sarat Appleby, Akkaramanee Jolie Songslip, and Mattawan Supapimo had sought to redesign and introduce a new core infrastructure for ACommerce’s market analysis system ‘ECommerceIQ’.
