ScII has signed a pivotal partnership with CloudBae BigData Industry to promote China-ASEAN student exchanges in entrepreneurship and create joint businesses in the areas of innovation, smart cities, digital economy, artificial intelligence, machine learning, intelligent computing, and data science. ScII will send students and startup teams from Thailand to China, where they will work with local students and lead entrepreneurship initiatives, and CloudBae will bring Chinese startups and teams to Thailand for the same purpose.
Professor Worsak Kanok-Nukulchai, Executive Director, Chulalongkorn School of Integrated Innovation (ScII), and Zhou Bo, President, CloudBae Big Data Industry Development Co., Ltd., signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to this effect on April 21, 2022. Dr. Pietro Borsano, Deputy Executive Director, Industrial and Global Alliances, ScII, and Mr. Huang Ying, Secretary of the CloudBase Big Data Board of Directors, were witnesses to the agreement.
Additionally, CloudBae will provide incubation space and services for Chula startup teams in the China-ASEAN Smart City Innovation Centre while ScIi and CloudBae will work together to support startup teams in launching their projects in China. Chulalongkorn University will provide CloudBae startup teams with incubation space and services at its university premises and conduct executive training programs on-site. Chula and CloudBae also work together to prepare and support startups launching in Bangkok and Thailand.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, Professor Worsak stated that the Chulalongkorn School of Integrated Innovation (ScII) is the first of its kind in Asia to deliver a transdisciplinary program in integrated innovation for talented students encompassing Entrepreneurship, Engineering, Sciences, Liberal Arts and Social Sciences. “Chulalongkorn University views this project as part of its digital transformation, to create a cohesive digital ecosystem that allows the University to address its vital roles in the future society,” he added.
In his remarks, Prof Worsak recalled that ScII and CloudBae had partnered to promote the China-ASEAN Smart City, Innovation, and Entrepreneurship Competition, where in the last edition 5 ScII startup teams made to the grand finals at ASEAN level, adding that an ScII team called Xinc1, which provides a healthcare platform for the elderly, is now pursuing plans to enter China and scale up its business. “I believe CloudBae and ScII share a common perspective on the world and can represent two pivotal forces driving economic growth and societal development in Thailand and China,” Professor Worsak said.
Chula’s Vice President for Strategic Planning, Innovation and Global Engagement, Dr. Natcha Thawesaengskulthai, noted that the partnership arrangement matches CloudBae’s mission and vision while aligning with ScII’s core expertise and providing invaluable partnership opportunities for both organizations as well as for Thailand and China. She informed participants that Chulalongkorn University was recently ranked Asia’s No.1 and No. 23 globally for Global Impact by the Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Ranking 2021, the highest-ranking ever received by a university in Thailand.
Mr. Zhou Bo informed participants that the MoU aims to establish an ASEAN-China platform for innovation and entrepreneurship. Chulalongkorn University’s strengths in talent development, education, and research will be leveraged in the setting up of this program, which will be based on CloudBae’s Smart City operation platform. In addition, the program will offer incubation facilities and services to young teams from overseas and help them enter the Chinese market. This cooperation will provide a demonstration base for cross-border cooperation activities in China-ASEAN Smart City innovations. Together with the China National Human Resources Service Industrial Park in Nanning, CloudBae will help integrate talent, innovation, and industry.
Also attending the event were Mr. Lee Eddie, CloudBae Overseas Marketing Director, and representatives of Wuxiang New District (Nanning Area Pilot Free Trade Zone) Administrative Committee, Nanning Municipal Foreign Affairs Office and Nanning Municipal Science and Technology Association, Liangqing District Organization Department and Liangqing District Science and Technology Bureau, and Guangxi International Talent Exchange Center.
