A new article by CSII faculty member Dr. Francis Kim discusses a Backcasting perspective on diffusing discontinuous innovations in Deep Tech, whose space is characterized by breakthrough technology and visionary market ambition to address the most urgent challenges of our time yet in a commercially compelling way.
Rather than basing predictions of new technology\'s evolution on past data trends and forecasting future products from a momentum at a point in time, it advocates for a dynamic approach to backcast on discontinuous innovation. By adopting a “learning from the future” practice, firms can develop a purposeful strategy, steering away from a more tentative or options-based method.
