- Is this consistency right? It doesn’t seem to be absorbing properly.
- Let’s double-check the formulation - it might need more tweaking...
- Ugh, I think we overdid the last adjustment. It’s way too thick now.
- Okay, let’s start over and stick to the original plan this time - third time’s the charm, right?
This semester has been a true roller coaster for students taking "Innovation in Health and Wellbeing" specialization course, where they embraced the challenges of product development, often learning more from their mistakes than their successes.
Guided by Dr. Sébastien Bertin-Maghit, the course challenged students to create their own wellness products - from concept to launch - in just one semester. From formulating rice-based sunscreen to coffee-infused haircare, their semester-long efforts culminated in the Health and Wellbeing Showcase, where innovation and determination took center stage.
Thailand’s thriving skincare industry provided an inspiring real-world context. At the showcase, visitors evaluated the results, with Team Jai’s rice-based sunscreen winning the top vote and two other standout teams - Kafei and Tomate - close behind.
Dr. Sébastien praised the students’ efforts: “I was impressed by how much they accomplished in such a short time. Every product had its own unique qualities and looked ready for the next step.” He also highlighted the opportunities for Thai skincare products in the global market, noting their high quality and affordability compared to pricier products from countries like Japan and South Korea. “Thailand’s strict FDA regulations ensure products meet international standards, making them competitive not just locally but also in neighboring countries where Thai skincare is seen as both reliable and accessible,” he explained.
This hands-on approach exemplifies CSII’s mission to combine creativity and practical experience throughout BAScii program. The showcase wasn’t just a display of finished products; it was proof of the transformative impact of learning by doing. Hands-on projects offer more than technical skills; they immerse students in real-world problem-solving, encouraging creativity and adaptability. In health and wellbeing, this approach is essential as it bridges theory and practice, allowing students to tackle challenges like formulation adjustments, product usability, and audience feedback. These experiences mimic industry conditions, preparing students to navigate stringent standards and innovate in competitive markets. By engaging directly with the process, students gain a deeper understanding of their field and learn resilience through trial and error.
At CSII, hands-on learning is at the heart of the experience.
